The State Street Academy of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Gaisford as artistic director of the school. Regarded as the most gifted cellist of his generation, Gaisford has been teaching advanced chamber music at the Academy for over a year.

We are truly delighted that Daniel Gaisford has accepted our invitation to serve as Artistic Director, said Richard Roberson, President of the SSA Board and Dean of the School of the Arts at Messiah College. We consider the State Street Academy fortunate to have an artist of his stature in this position, add we anticipate with eagerness the future of the Academy under his leadership.

Gaisford has won acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. He has appeared regularly with orchestras throughout the United States and Canada, among them the Saint Louis Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.

Equally active as a recitalist, Gaisford has performed extensively at music festivals including The Mostly Mozart Festival, the Chautauqua Festival, the Caramoor Festival, the Davos Festival in Switzerland and the RomaEuropa.

I'm delighted and excited to undertake the position of artistic director of the State Street Academy of Music, says Gaisford. The Academy is a wonderful place for kids to study music and it has considerable potential to become a leading musical institution within the community and the greater Harrisburg area. All of my professional life has been dedicated to performing and teaching. This has been enormously rewarding, and it now feels only natural to bring those experiences to bear within a single institution wholly dedicated to music. I hope to build upon my predecessors in expanding the profile and reach of the Academy, to show the enormous benefits music can have on not just our youth, but indeed all of us.

Gaisford and his family reside in Harrisburg. His wife, Josefina Melgar, is a well-known piano soloist and chamber musician in the United States and Europe. The two met at the Juilliard School of Music and have performed together ever since.
